Which articles of the Insurance Code does the letter rely on?
The letter generator relies on four articles of the French Insurance Code (Code des assurances), each linked below to Légifrance. They were consulted on Légifrance on 6 October 2026. Légifrance publishes the official French text.
Article L113-12 of the Insurance Code: annual cancellation with notice
The policyholder and the insurer may cancel the contract every year after a first year of application. Cancellation must be notified at least two months before the contract anniversary date.

Article L113-15-1 of the Insurance Code: Chatel law
For contracts held by individuals outside any professional activity, the insurer must restate the cancellation deadline with each annual renewal notice. If the notice arrives too late (less than 15 days before the deadline, or after it), the policyholder has twenty days following the date the notice was sent to cancel.

Article L113-15-2 of the Insurance Code: Hamon law
Consumers (individuals outside any professional activity) may cancel car, motorcycle or home insurance free of charge after one full year of cover. Cancellation takes effect one month after the insurer receives the written notification. The policyholder only pays the portion of premium for the period covered.
